2024 AI on the Horizon

New year, new AI…or something like that.

It’s almost time to make those New Year’s building resolutions, and there’s never been a better time in history to build cool technology.

A whole new environment that’s set to come out- the Apple Vision pro is on the cusp of release late January/Early February. And a whole slew of productivity apps are set to be developed there. And games- there’s that too.

This thing is going to be special, no doubt- spatial computing and Large Vision Models (LVMs) are definitely places to explore and build in.

On a related note, Apple’s Johny Ive and Sam Altman have teamed up to build AI hardware– a huge indication of some of the breakthroughs yet to come.

The chatbot interface, though prominent, is the first breakthrough iteration of how humans will interface with the world of AI.

And though not entirely ready, a whole slew of new interfaces and interactions will be brought to the forefront in 2024.

Case in point:

1/ Figure is releasing humanoid robots

2/ Big advances in Biotechnology with AI

Using deep learning, MIT researchers have found a drug-resistant bacterium that has caused 10k + deaths in the US each year. What is wild is that the MIT researchers now know what kinds of information the deep-learning model used to make antibiotic potency predictions- thus there is a self replicability that more researchers could use.

Anybody want to do a deep learning + Ozempic study?

Anyways…

Many of asked- what does the adoption curve really look like for generative AI? What sort of facts, not feelings, can we go off of?

For starters, here’s an interesting one:

71% of enterprises experimenting with real use cases for GenAI

These are legit enterprises- just because they haven’t rolled AI products out yet, doesn't mean they aren’t exploring it…big R&D investment coming here in 2024. 2023 was sort of the “magical wonder demo” phase of AI, and while there are going to be very flashy demos next year, the real adoption curve will begin for up-market companies.

Peace out.
