AI Melee, Boards, and Regulation

The next rung on the ladder of AI acceleration is the big showdown.

And not just any kind of showdown.

One that we’ve anticipated for a while…

1/ X vs Open: The Musk-Altman Melee

In this corner, we have xAI, backed by the inimitable Elon Musk, an early OpenAI investor, now raising a staggering $6 billion to take on his former ally.

And in the opposite corner, the reigning OpenAI champion, helmed by none other than Sam Altman himself.

The gloves are off, and the stage is set for an AI slugfest. Let the games begin.

2/ Perplexity adds Voice-to-voice

PerplexityAI is fresh off the heels of raising 60+ million and being valued as a unicorn.

Fresh off the press, Perplexity has now added voice-to-voice AI for iOS users.

Will Perplexity win against google? Who knows- but it’s certainly got a shot at the prize, and knowing that matters in startups.

3/ AI Wearable Necklace

We’ve got more AI hardware coming out- not the humane AI pin

But instead…call this friend- a wearable AI companion for your life.

It’s also open-source and built by a Thiel fellow- seems to check all the boxes.

Some of the key benefits they emphasize in their kickstarter are - remembering calls, meetings, events, people, etc.

Forgot key Huberman health and memory enhancement techniques? This AI wearable’s got your back.

4/ Chinese LLM beats GPT-4?

Chinese tech firm SenseTime just launched SensaNova, which supposedly outclasses GPT-4 Turbo on all key benchmarks.

For context, its a 600B parameters 200k context, and trained on 10 TB of synthetic data.

China has made a mark in social media with TikTok- but now its firmly in the LLM race alongside US companies.

5/ AI Safety Board from the Government

Apparently, the DHS is forming an AI safety board, and the top AI CEO’s, such as Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, and Satya Nadella will be part of it.

Interesting- it is better that people who understand AI will be part of the board, rather than independent bureaucrats that make up much of DC.

Anyway, that's all for now, folks. Stay tuned for more electrifying AI developments as they unfold.
