AI's App Store Moment

It's Official- Sam Jobs?

It’s official.

And, for those wondering, no- someone’s not getting engaged.

We’re talking about the app store moment for AI.

Open AI has just released news of it’s plugin store, just a week after launching GPT-4.

Which means, OpenAI is the big winner- but, that also means, there will be many winners built on it!

Think of the app store in 2007- obviously, Apple was the winner, but Uber, Instacart, Spotify, and AngryBirds did pretty well.

Here’s a quick list of apps connected to the OpenAI App store:

  • Expedia

  • FiscalNote

  • Instacart (hello…)

  • Kayak

  • Klarna Shopping

  • Milo Family AI

  • OpenTable

  • Shop

  • Speak

  • Wolfram (Math students, you’re in good hands…)

  • Zapier

Basically, this covers a lot of the essentials…

Anyway, the pace of AI advancements are not going to slow down- they’re speeding up, and fast. Which means, it’s the best time in at least a decade to start as an entrepreneur.

GPT 4 Debuts

Now, I’m going to talk about the release of GPT-4. Our staff saw the live demonstration, and it blew us away.

In fact, just a week ago, GPT-4 debuted.

In case you missed the demonstration, here are a few of the insane things presented in the GPT-4 demo:

  1. Building a Discord Bot - You see, ChatGPT could help build a discord bot, but it often led to buggy code that produced many errors.

In this demonstration, GPT4 handled the errors with greater speed and precision than prior models. A big win for developers.

  2. Image to Product- GPT-4 is a multimodal vision model, so it can fill in a webpage, a thought, or a problem using only vision- or an image. So, you’ll be seeing a lot of students feeding the model their homework as an image.

It can also code a full website based on an image you feed it. Hello, personal dev shop?

  1. It can solve math problems, using image recognition. In the demo, it calculated the answer to a complex tax problem, in seconds- get this- based on a simple screenshot

AI Race in the Recruiting Market

We’ve got Microsoft revamping Bing with ChatGPT. And GPT-4 has been released this week. Let’s make Bing a thing?

We’ve got Google with Bard….and I’m left wondering, who comes up with these names?

Sticking to it’s unceremonious name, Bard….was kind of a dud.

Anyways, as the AI race heats up, we’ve got to spotlight some awesome startups and tools for you to tinker with.

You see, with tech, you get the best understanding by doing.

One startup, ProgAI, is attempting to eliminate the need for the technical interview- millions of undergrads sigh in relief all over the country…

But wait. There’s a catch…Of course.

It uses AI to analyze a developer’s LinkedIn and GitHub pages to determine skill. So now we’re using AI to rank developers who can code AI.

This would be the “SAT” equivalent for coding- most people have a Linkedin and Github, so having an AI-powered standardized score does make the recruiting process easier.

Another company, Sapia AI, has launched and raised a $17 million series A. And if you’ve tried fundraising in this market, you know this is impressive to say the least.

What Sapia is attempting to do is replace the interviewer with AI.

Which means, no more “tell me about yourself” situations on the spot- even though I’ve answered this question thousands of times, I’m still not quite sure what I’m supposed to say in response. Go figure.

Sapia uses AI to filter out candidates who don’t meet minimum qualifications, and then a candidate uploads an async video interview- at this point, the humans come into play…

Sounds efficient, doesn’t it?

See, many talk about AI replacing human workers- to a great extent, this will happen. But just as in this interview case, AI will speed up processes and workflows, benefitting everybody as a result.

Who wants to ask “tell me about yourself” for the 50th time in a day?

And, listen: even though it’s only been out for a few months, ChatGPT has become an integral part in the lives of both employees, entrepreneurs, and students.

In fact, here are some AI opinion stats:

  • Nearly two thirds of people say that AI will have a huge impact on their lives

  • Only 39% of people say that the growth of AI and Machine Learning makes them nervous

  • 63% of companies in the USA want to maintain or increase their AI spend in 2023

I gotta pause for one second- you know when everyone was talking about AI coming for all the jobs? Who knew that it would be the jobs with the highest creative input- designers, writers, and developers who’d be at the greatest risk. Funny how the world works.
