Big AI Veto, Drug Discovery, & Energy
1/ AI Revolutionizing Drug Discovery
Atomwise, the SF-based startup, is redefining the drug discovery process with the power of AI. Their platform, AtomNet, harnesses neural networks to predict how effective potential drugs will be.
Why does this matter? By giving researchers a tool to validate drug candidates before they hit expensive clinical trials, Atomwise is saving time, money, and lives. So far, they’ve successfully identified 230 targets out of 318, across hundreds of countries. A huge leap forward in the race for new treatments!
2/ California Vetoes Controversial AI Bill
Silicon Valley is breathing a sigh of relief, with party plans probably already on Partiful. Governor Newsom just vetoed the AI Bill (SB 1047) that had the tech world on edge.
Thank you @GavinNewsom for vetoing SB1047 -- for siding with California Dynamism, economic growth, and freedom to compute, over safetyism, doomerism, and decline. 💪🚀✨

The bill would have held tech companies liable for AI-related harms and required them to install a “kill switch” for rogue AI. Sounds reasonable at first glance, but the potential for vague and overreaching regulations threatened to stifle innovation in a fast-growing industry. For now, AI startups can continue pushing the envelope without worrying about murky legislation putting the brakes on progress.
3/ Open-Source AI is Booming
The open-source AI movement is thriving! From Meta to HuggingFace, developers around the globe are riding the wave of collaboration, creating AI models that are pushing boundaries.
We just crossed 1,000,000 free public models on Hugging Face!
That’s the ones the media covers like Llama, Gemma, Phi, Flux, Mistral, Phi, Starcoder, Qwen, Stable diffusion, Grok, Whisper, Olmo, Command, Zephyr, OpenELM, Jamba, Yi but also 999,984 others. Why?

HuggingFace just celebrated a major milestone—1 million open-source models on their platform! It’s a testament to the explosive growth and momentum in the open-source AI community, as innovation continues to reach new heights in this AI renaissance.
4/ Hive Digital Leverages AI for Growth
Hive, once known for its crypto mining operations, is expanding into AI in a big way. While crypto mining earned them $0.12 per hour, their pivot to using Nvidia GPUs for AI tasks is bringing in $1 per hour. It’s a powerful example of how companies are evolving in today’s tech landscape.
The Hive team remains bullish on Bitcoin, and they’ve made it clear: AI and Crypto are the future. Their approach? Mine machines to generate free cash flow, then upgrade. With a focus on clean, green coins and a belief in the future of both crypto and AI, Hive is playing a long game in two of the most exciting tech frontiers of the decade.
