Jobs, EU, & Mistral

1/ 50% of Jobs gone?

Chinese computer scientist and VC Kai-Fu Lee states that AI will take over 50% of the jobs in the global workforce.

His reasoning? He states that “most jobs are repetitive” and speaks of things such as “truck-driving, telemarketing, dishwashing, fruit picking,” etc.

He’s not wrong on one hand- on the other hand, similar to the industrial revolution, new jobs will be created with functions we may not fathom yet.

2/ AI + Blockchain in Europe?

The EU is now looking to explore the intersection of AI and the blockchain.

The EU commission is basically saying that the convergence of AI and blockchain can “reduce the risk of data monopolies and promote collaborative AI development”

This is a step in the right direction, and utilizing proof of work technology can be significant in protecting against the deepfakes AI produces today.

3/ Video Action - MIT Lab

In the MIT-Watson IBM lab, researchers are using a technique called spatio-temporal grounding, which feeds the AI only videos/generated scripts to determine where objects are located and when the action happens.

Chen, a lead researcher on this, stated that “we disentangle information of trying to encode spatial and temporal distance at once and instead think about it like two experts working on their own”.

This video identification AI could mean wonders for doctors, who often need to come up with diagnoses based on video or images.

4/ Mistral’s Coding LLM performs highly

So highly, that it even beat out Llama 3 70 B and CodeLlama- all with just 32k tokens. Wonderful efficiency and performance for developers.
