The New Google?

And Legal AI on the Rise

Since it’s 2024, an election year, the mainstream media is focusing on how AI will negatively impact elections.

Deep Fakes. Manipulation. Etc.

But how about the upside?

You see, if you take a look at Justice Roberts on the supreme court, for example, he says that will majorly change the jobs of judges and legal practices.

Though, with the caveat that AI cannot fully replace the role of a judge due to body language interpretation….it gets pretty damn close.

If AI can reduce the sheet volume of “putting the finger on the scale” that many courts seem to have, then it can definitely be a good thing.

A first impartial mediator of sorts- assuming the model used is not itself biased- which could very well also be an issue.

AI could also help reduce the bias at the head of institutional academia- which has been particularly prominent recently as seen at various ivy league institutions.

Anyways, we can dive into a few interesting AI developments currently:

1/ Harvey- the AI lawyer

They haven’t launched yet, but they seem to have garnered a lot of attention from top investors in Silicon Valley.

Could be noise more than signal, but who knows?

2/ Nvidia, Tobi from Shopify, Naval, Balaji, and Bezos have all invested in Perplexity AI.

Talk about some investing firepower.

Slight detour, but have you seen Lex’s pod with Bezos? Really interesting, to say the least.

Anyways, Perplexity just raised at a half a billion valuation.

Why is this interesting? The company is aiming to replace Google as the default search engine, powered by AI.

Not that Google doesn’t have AI….

But the UX that Perplexity offers seems to have captured the zeal that many have imagined is possible with an AI centric search engine.

It gets to the point and helps you explore your curiosities- what more could you ask for?

3/ GPT Store launches next week

That’s right the GPT store, which was announced at Sam Altman’s talk a few months back(before the OpenAI board room drama), is set to launch.

Which means, it's a golden opportunity to start building there.

Anyways, peace out.
