New OpenAI Partnerships & Celebrities

After the last year, many in AI have felt one large constraint on their ability to build: GPUs.

Well, Microsoft, apart from making moves with OpenAI, is now set to offer its cloud computing customers AMD chips, which are chips that will compete with Nvidia chips.

Interesting- Microsoft and Nvidia are now in direct competition.

1/ Open AI + Reddit?

Reddit and OpenAI just formed a partnership, and the conditions of the deal are: Reddit gets access to OpenAI’s tech for building AI features, and OpenAI gets real-time access to reddit posts that feed into ChatGPT.

Give and take. This is a stark contrast to last year when many suspected reddit would sue open AI for training their models on the data.

2/ OpenAI super-alignment team quits

This is quite interesting- a common pattern over the last few months: OpenAI does a major release, and internal drama follows.

Sutskever was one of the chief scientists on the alignment team, and states ”The company’s trajectory has been nothing short of miraculous, and I’m confident OpenAI will build AGI that is both safe and beneficial”

The question becomes- why resign?

The most prominent AI company in the world is OpenAI, yet the internal workings are shrouded in mystery- from the org structure, scientific discoveries, etc.

But hey, it makes for a wonderful story- someday a movie will be made on it (produced by AI).

Some are also saying this is a bull signal for GPT-5 and how powerful it might already be.

3/ AI Storage for Celebrities?

The CAA, or creative artists agency, is attempting to store their actors’ “AI identity” in a vault o0f sorts.

Basically, they are building a system, which includes recordings, images, and assets in a digital vault. Perhaps as a means to get ahead of AI cloning and copyright issues?
