Open Source, xAI Superclusters, & Perplexity

1/ Resurrection with AI?

Talk about blurring the lines between tech and the afterlife! In Taiwan, some folks are taking "keeping memories alive" to a whole new level. Sun, 47, isn't just flipping through old photo albums - he's chatting with an AI avatar of his late mom. He calls it "the most perfect confidant." Comforting or creepy? You decide. But it raises some wild questions about grief, memory, and how far we'll go to hold onto those we've lost.

2/ PerplexityAI faces Perplex Situation?

Conde Nast Publications has just accused Perplexity of plagiarism. More details are trickling in, and perplexity is currently valued at $3 Billion.

It’s not the first investigation Perplexity is facing-AWS is already eyeing their web-scraping habits. With a $3 billion valuation, that's one expensive copy-paste job if true. AI startups are definitely in for a wild ride.

3/ Meta- Open Source is the Way Forward

Meta, of all companies, seems to be leading the charge on open-source AI.

Zuckerberg states:

“I believe that AI will develop in a similar way. Today, several tech companies are developing leading closed models. But open source is quickly closing the gap. Last year, Llama 2 was only comparable to an older generation of models behind the frontier. This year, Llama 3 is competitive with the most advanced models and leading in some areas. Starting next year, we expect future Llama models to become the most advanced in the industry. But even before that, Llama is already leading on openness, modifiability, and cost efficiency.”

4/ Elon announces Supercluster

He will need all that compute for xAI, if he wishes to fight against OpenAI. Further, Elon has announced his xAI supercluster training has started at 4:20 am…what are the odds :)
