Vision, Pika Labs, and Magic

We are now in December…

Which begs the question…what are the most awesome things going down in the world of AI?

ChatGPT vision….total game changer

Especially for developers and designers all over the world. Case 1: Prototyping UI’s in minutes

2/ Pika Labs raises a bunch of funding for it’s idea to video technology.

Simply wild. We knew it would happen eventually, but its still awesome. Sign up for the waitlist here: https://pika.art/login

The founders, Demi and Chenlin, both worked in Stanford’s AI research lab, and have closed a $55 million funding round for the company. Wonderful progress- this should provide them great runway as they make AI video tools for the masses to use.

This begs the question- is Hollywood in trouble?

Many would say its not, but at the rate things are progressing, you never know.

But, for now, we do know that AI can beautifully enhance the workflow of cinematographers, VFX editors, and artists all over the world.

Here’s a wonderful tool showing just that:

MagnificAI, a tool that can improve the resolution on your images, utilizing generative AI.

An effective copilot for video editors. Replace? Don’t think so- for now.

But…Ridley Scott, a famous filmmaker who directed the recent movie Napoleon, states that AI could be the “technical hydrogen bomb” for the film industry…This is a bit of a hyperbole for current capabilities, and may be used to justify more AI bans and strikes, but we will see how this progresses.

3/ GPT Turmoil

And due to all the recent OpenAI issues…the launch of the GPT store has been delayed to early next year. Not surprised, they probably need a few weeks to get things in order.

Anyways, when you think about AI in a modern context- it’s becoming like the cloud. A new standard of operations. On its own, not differentiated in a meaningful way. But layered onto existing applications in industries such as finance, law, film or medicine? Now we’re talking.

Or AI avatars are cool too. Check out HeyGen. Something about winter time propels AI avatars to the forefront. Last winter, this happened with Lensa. Repeat season? We’ll see.

Peace out for now.
