The Urgent Mystery of Testosterone
And Startups are Cashing In
Welcome to The ZenPreneur, the newsletter that gets you calmer than drinking Ginseng tea on a Friday.
There’s a certain substance out there that affects your bone density, fat distribution, your energy, and even your mental state to a large degree.
You’ve probably heard of it before.
No, it’s not Adderall. Though, that’s in the running too.
We’re talking about, drumroll please…..testosterone.
It's a hormone that's been declining in men for a while now. Studies show that for the last three decades, testosterone levels have been continuously decreasing in men. As a result, we’ve seen clickbaity article titles from Forbes such as “You’re not the man you’re father was”. Chill…
At the risk of sounding bro-sciency, lets list some of the doctor-backed benefits of increasing testosterone levels in your body:
Greater energy levels, because testosterone helps in the production of red blood cells
Improved sex drive (shocker)
Improved fat loss, as testosterone aids in both reducing waist circumference & lowering BMI
Greatly Improved cognition- higher testosterone means improves memory, lessens risk of dementia, lowers crankiness, and lowers depression. Overall, this is fantastic for improving mood
Lower risk of heart disease
So, before you start rushing to the clinic to get injected….there are very natural, science-backed ways to help skyrocket your testosterone levels:
Lift weights multiple times a week
Get at least 7 hours of sleep-> sleep lowers cortisol levels
Get sunlight in the morning
Incorporate leafy greens, eggs, fishoil supplements, and onions into your diet
Take icebaths and cold showers-> cooling causes greater blood flow in the ideal areas.
Cold plunge, anyone?
For the entrepreneurs reading this (of which there are many), testosterone therapy is a multibillion-dollar, and growing industry. If you want to build something in this space, the headwinds are in your favor.
Certainly, there are a few startups in the space taking advantage of the decline in men’s testosterone levels. Who could blame them, though?
One such startup is Vault. Vault is a men’s health startup that has raised $30 million dollars from Tiger Global. So, it's worth quite a bit. They specialize in bringing specialized medicine into men’s homes and destigmatize men’s health as a whole. Great goal.
And, there’s another trying to win in this exact space- it’s called Base Healthcare. Since we love talking numbers here- everything from BMI to cash in the bank- they have raised a $3.4 million seed round.
Specifically, they use AI to improve sleep, diet, and sex drive.
How exactly, you may ask? Well, they provide tailored recommendation plans, as well as sell at-home lab tests to help users monitor and improve their general well-being. To make money, they charge around $60 a month to keep the lights on. Smart move.
Anyways lads, take these tips to optimize your health and performance. Heck, even launch that health tech startup you’ve been thinking about.
