War, Hacking, & Nvidia's Blackwell

We’re in June. If New York is the city that never sleeps, then AI is the technology that never sleeps- literally.

Anyway, we’ve got an action-packed week coming up in AI land.

1/ AI in War

Palantir, the defense-tech company cofounded by Peter Thiel, just got a 480 million dollar contract to expand its AI tool suite to project Maven. Maven is basically the Pentagon’s AI program, which aims on identifying potential targets.

It’s a serious use case with existential use cases.

As uncle Ben says, “with great power, comes great responsibility”.

2/ AI used by Hackers

The 2024 IBM  X-Force states that an increasing percentage of companies are getting extremely focused on using generate AI attack tools to counter AI attack tools.

And cybercrime is being waged with LLMs who use it to do scripting, file manipulation, multiprocessing, etc.

So its critical for companies to have a plan of attack to counter these forces- and be on call when customers are hacked.

3/ Jensen reveals Next-gen platform for Nvidia

The new Blackwell GPU, set to be released next year, has Resilience Technologies which enable Trillion-Parameter-Scale AI Models- this is huge for model layer companies that need more compute and resources to train models.

As a side benefit, the AI on these trillion-parameter language model enabling-chips would cost 25x less and use less energy than the GPUs of the last era.

Jensen even stated -”Blackwell is the engine to power this new industrial revolution. Working with the most dynamic companies in the world, we will realize the promise of AI for every industry”

Go figure.

4/ Apple to Announce New Gen AI Features Next Week

Remember their partnership with OpenAI- human-like voice is definitely going to be a result of that feature. Not to mention AI transcription, and …. AI generated emojis?
